A Whole New Take on Data Quality

Suppose you're at work, and you find you need to compare two or three data files to find duplicate entries, or you need to clean up each of the files individually and remove all of the duplicates.  Your IT department is swamped, you're on a deadline and the result of your efforts may really benefit your company and impress your boss.  You're looking for a simple solution and one that isn't going to cost you or your company an arm and a leg.  Where do you turn?

The answer is S3's self-service, web-based version of TeraMatch®, internally named Freebird.  Freebird gives business users unprecedented power to analyze and understand any type of data, by providing a method to compare multiple files on-demand, and match, compare or dedupe the data as needed.  The solution is a cost-effective and quick alternative to implementing expensive matching software or relying on an IT department for answers.

The Freebird Process

Take a look at the two excel entries below.  Notice that they are very similar, but with several inconsistencies.  The first names are slightly different, and the Client and Social Security Numbers are off by one number.  A human would be able to look at these two entries and see that they are more than likely a match.  In the same way that a human would come to this conclusion, Freebird can apply a score to each individual field and confirm that the two are in fact a match.  Freebird is able to provide the accuracy of human matching with the speed of an automated matching tool.

With Freebird, you can compare multiple files, or clean a single file, both by using a very simple and intuitive process.  To begin the process, you upload your files, and specify what you are trying to do.  If you are comparing several files, you can then specify which fields you would like to match on, and then submit your match.  That's when Freebird begins to do its magic, and often in only minutes!

Upon matching and cleaning your files, Freebird then allows the user to download three files:  a cleansed file, which is the new file with no duplicates, a duplicates file, which shows all the records that were removed as duplicates, and an exception file that would show any errors that may have occurred.  You now have the results you were looking for in a fraction of the time, and for a fraction of the cost!
